The busiest part of a woman, what do you think it is, the Heart? The brain? If you ask me I think the LIPS are the busiest part of a woman's body… HOW???
Well, they have a lot of work to do, those sizzling gossip, the soulful eating, the gorgeous smile to put up the pouts to pose for the perfect picture, and let's not forget one of the important aspects, all the kissing it has to go through. As makeup artists, we must know the different shapes of lips.
The other elements - the face, the eyes, the nose, and so do the lips have an ideal category. The Ideal Lip Shape of a lip as per a public survey boils down to symmetry i.e. a 1:1 ratio of the upper lip and the lower lip and added element is the cupid’s bow, which is also the most requested feature when asked by a cosmetic surgeon.
- The Lips have their unique importance and amazing facts too which I would. I would like to mention it herewith.
- Lips are as unique as our fingerprints, meaning as well all know our fingerprints are unidentical, Similarly, the Lip prints are extensively unique from one another.
- The Upper Lip is known as the Labium Superius Oris and the lower lip is known as the Labium Inferius Oris. The borders of the Lip are known as Vermillion Borders.
- Lips do not sweat. Now having said that they are also 100 times more sensitive you’re your fingertips. Here’s a kind of sad fact but yes as it is a fact I would like to mention this to all my beauties reading this. Our lips get thinner as we grow older, hence we have several treatments in the cosmetic world, including fillers, tinting, etc.
- This is a little weird but our lips help us choose our ideal mate. As mentioned earlier they play a vital role in Kissing, enabling us to get close enough to our potential mates to sniff their pheromones and exchange information about their suitability. Maybe that’s how while reading this you may have thought about someone with whom you had the best kiss of your life or some of you may have noted this point for your upcoming first kiss too.
Now I think that I have given all of us that extra thought to pamper them with some extra care and let us understand how to appreciate their existence. The lips have a very thin layer of skin as compared to the other parts of the body, hence it's extremely sensitive, so first and foremost Stop licking, biting, and plucking on your lips.
The first thing we as makeup artist need to keep in mind is always keep the lips nice and hydrated, as a makeup academy it's important we talk about the lips as it is super important for the look, here are a few secrets on how to achieve Exfoliate / Scrub:- It is very essential to exfoliate or scrub your lips every once or twice a week. There are a variety of DIY scrubs but I will also let you work out the best suitable DIY scrub for yourself or a toothbrush can be used on dry lips too.
Pamper them:- Like your body is your temple so are your lips, so if u can think of a spa time for your body after a tiresome week or month at work and home chores, give your Lips the privilege too, as mentioned in the start they do a lot for you, so do not forget to pamper that sensuous and scrumptious element of yours with tender massages, as it helps in blood circulation.
Bedtime routine:- Do not go to bed without hydrating them. Use a lip balm that will help them hydrate while you have a good night's sleep.
By just saying the word Lips, isn’t it that you all waited for me to link this somewhere to LIPSTICKS?
Just couldn’t stop me from sharing this, A Little did know that they were commercially produced in 1884 by French Perfumes from a combination of Deer tallow, Castor Oil, and Beeswax. Well, it's the lipstick that was invented then, but shading the Lips was much more ancient than lipstick. In ancient times, the Egyptians were the first ones to love shaded lips, however, we may not like their idea of enhancing the lips with some rather interesting sources like the Grounded Cochineal insects which gave out Carmine Dye and other ingredients like lead, iodine which we do find in some of the modern time lipsticks.
So these were the olden times, I bet no one is gonna go searching for deer tallow, beeswax, or carmine dye. Well sorry for all the vegans out there to mention all the facts, but as it rightly said THE REST IS HISTORY. So let history be history, let us now get talking about the types of products of the Modern times.
The pinks, the reds, the nudes, and so on. But little do we all know about it, it's not just lipsticks but it's much beyond a Single tone, shade, or tint, choosing the right lipstick shade is very important as a makeup artist as lipsticks can make or break the look. Here are a few categories of lipsticks that we talk about in our makeup courses held at our makeup school in Mumbai and highlight the difference between them:
a) Lip Tinted Balms – to add the color you desire for those with chapped lips or who wish not to make it obvious of wearing a lip color
b) Lip Gloss – for that extra shine and gloss and let's not forget the hydrating look that everyone seeks. It contains vitamin E and aloe giving you that moisturizing effect.
c) Matt Lipstick – the name says it all, no shine, no gloss, just pure matt elegance.
d) Semi Matt Lipsticks – a hint of both matt and gloss
e) Super Stays/ non Transferrable/ KISS proof – for those long hour wears and to stop your loved ones from being embarrassed with the Lipstick marks.
f) Satin/Sheer Lipsticks – advisable for those dry lips as they include moisturizing elements and are light and wearable, providing natural or close to no makeup lips.
g) Lip Pencils – who would want that bleeding lips, Lip pencils are here for survival. They help stop lipsticks from moving over the lip edge.
